Another Easy Christmas Craft

I'm definitely getting in the mood for the holidays, but this year, with a curious baby around, it's important to have decorations that are safe. I love the little decorative Christmas trees around, but they're usually made of glass and have tiny pieces.

So, I thought I'd make my own!

This is a super-easy, super-afforable craft that doesn't take a lot of time or make a lot of mess!

What you'll need:
  • styrofoam cones (I bought mine at Walmart, but you can try Michaels, or even the Dollar Store)
  • hot glue gun and lots of glue sticks
  • ribbon
  • toothpick
  • pearls on a string/garland/yarn/decorative ribbon
Because holiday decor is literally in every store, it should be easy to find these supplies. I picked up a large bin of pearls on a string for about $6 at Walmart. It's almost too easy to explain! You just add dabs of hot glue to the styro cone and wrap the pearls around and around. Take your time and be careful not to burn yourself.

If you can't find pearls on a string - try any other garland type or a fancy yarn. It's much easier than glueing individual items. Keep wrapping and gluing until you get to the top. Ta Da! The tree is done.

Next, you make a ribbon bow and using a toothpick, you can pierce it into the top of the tree. (You can hot glue this too, but I figure, with a toothpick, you can change it easily)

To make the trees look even better, place them atop a candlestick for some height. And there you have it. Decorative Christmas trees!

Other ideas: use tiny balls to cover the tree, paint the tree, roll in glue and add some glitter for sparkle, cover the styro tree in smarties - the possibilities are endless!

What will you be DIYing this holiday season?

  2. Love them! Actually I made something similar a few years ago with my DD as she is into all things crafting as well. Because beads are a bit difficult for her manipulate I used a ton of bakers twine (red and white) and told her to wrap them around styrofoam cones. Not sure where they went but they're somewhere in the house!

Currently I'm trying to make Christmas cards. We recently did a family photoshoot and I'm trying to use one of the photos for a card. I need to get this done ASAP as I am behind this year in sending out cards! Last year I mailed everything out by December 1. This year I'll be lucky if they get out by the 15th.
