BBQ Season is Here! #GayLeaFoods #Contest

For many people, the start of summer signals the start of BBQ season. In our family, we barbeque all year long. I love grilled, charbroiled meat and vegetables and so does my family, including my LO. It's fast, easy and it makes the clean-up in the kitchen a breeze!

When it comes to grilling, we do it all - chicken, ribs, steak, sausage and even seafood. We're hardly vegetarians. Finding a complementary side dish is sometimes tiresome, though. We usually opt for grilled asparagus, or corn on the cob, or a simple grilled zucchini salad. But who doesn't love mashed potatoes? Mashed potatoes can be loved -- and usually are -- year round. They are quite simple to make, filling, and can make great leftovers.

Last night, our dinner consisted of pork side ribs and creamy chive mash, using Gay Lea Gold Premium Sour Cream. To tell you the truth, this is the first time I've purchased Gold Premium Sour Cream. I'm usually a "Fat-Free" kinda gal. Let me tell you -- this product is a dream. I'm getting hungry just thinking of it. It's thick and super creamy (hence the name Premium), and has the consistency of a thick yogurt or cream cheese versus a thinner sour cream. In fact, you could probably use it as a cream cheese substitute if you wish -- it would be great as a dip, a tzatziki sauce, an add-on to a soup. I used it as a thickener/creamer to my mashed potatoes.

Creamy Chive Mash

What you will need:
- 8-10 Yukon Gold Potatoes, washed, peeled and boiled
- 1/2 cup Gay Lea Gold Premium Sour Cream
- 1/2 cup of milk
- 3-4 tbsps of Gay Lea butter
- salt/pepper to taste
- handful of chopped chives

I decided to make my mash with chives, but you can substitute with garlic if you prefer of leave it out all together. Once your potatoes are boiled and soft, add all your ingredients and mash. You can whip, if you wish (I didn't).

The chive mash with the Gold Premium Sour Cream tastes like a smooth, creamy loaded baked potato, minus the bacon (but how good would that be!?). Both my husband and daughter ate it all up and it was a delicious complement to the grilled pork ribs. If you make extra, save some for leftovers! It can be simply heated up, OR, add it to a pan and heat through with Parmesan cheese and breadcrumbs. Total yum.

This month, Simply Suppa has another wonderful Gay Lea contest! Here's your chance to win 12 free Gay Lea products -- and if you haven't yet tried the Gold Premium Sour Cream, now's your chance!
