The word of the day is deflated. At least, for me it is.

With recent and sudden developments in the COVID-19 pandemic, I feel sad. Don't get me wrong: I'm grateful for my family's health (#1), I'm grateful for a fridge full of food and a home with a backyard, but I'm also quite sad.

The rate of the spread of this virus is quite alarming, and while I'm personally not in a panic mode, it's also concerning for the weakest in our community.

Some are carrying on "business as usual", while Chiefs of Health and Ministers are recommending we hunker down and stay indoors. I understand two weeks is a short time to sacrifice for the community's health, but it's also difficult to get excited or look forward to anything in the foreseeable future. The unknown is scary.

It's hard to know what to believe, what to think, how to react. I feel for independent businesses, retailers, tourism boards, hourly workers.

For now, we'll all take this one day at a time, because this virus and its state is changing rapidly. We'll be diligent about hand-washing, not attend large events and enjoy each other's company. Hopefully, one day soon, we'll be able to look back on this time and remember how we got through it.

Good luck everyone,
