Starting a Collection?

I love collecting. Admittedly, sometimes I collect too many things, or too much stuff that I end up being a "junk" collector and then have a hard time giving it up.

Since my childhood, I've collected:

  • stamps
  • stickers
  • coins
  • rocks (I know, weird)
  • tickets to past events
  • Swarovski figurines
  • Playbill programs
  • Holiday Barbies
  • Pandora charms

I'm also a sucker for saving birthday cards, corks from wine/champagne bottles and cute things that remind me of a special or momentous occasion or time. I have boxes of memories that I can't get rid of, nor do I want to.

In a few weeks, my baby girl turns one. I can't believe it. I've heard of some people starting collections for their kids, and of course, this immediately piqued my interest. Some people have suggested a charm bracelet, a Barbie, a statue or figurine, an annual coin. I'd love something that I can get her every year and when she's 16 (or so), she can take over the collection, or give it up, or whatever.

Of course, I don't want to collect something silly or even too big (where will I store it?) but still like the idea. And so, I'm taking this to the social world:

What would you collect for your little one?

  1. My Mom is the best at starting and fuelling collections for me. I really hope she will do the same for my daughter!
