The Element of Surprise Toys

I don't love surprises.

In fact, I try and avoid surprises; not just when it comes to gifts, but in life, too. I know, let it go, Julia. I will admit, though, there is a certain excitement when it comes to opening something and not knowing what's inside.

Well, seems a lot of people are very much into surprises, especially with toys. You can thank YouTube or vloggers or instagrammers, or whoever, for unboxing and surprise videos. I, for one, have kids who LOVE surprise videos and toys, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

A few weeks ago Imports Dragon sent me a bunch of new toys for the season, and if your kids love an unboxing or surprise toy, here you go:

Shopkins: My kids phase in and out of Shopkins, but these new collections are pretty cool. Lil Secrets is a hand-held mini world that you can unlock using your secret map and code. You don't know what you're getting inside, but you have an idea of the theme (ours is Make Up Salon). And the new Shoppets are less about surprise, but more about collectable. These FLUFFY dogs come with their accompanying Shopkin and a stand. Idea: wrap it in a big box and create that surprise, unwrapping element.
Pikmi Pops Surprises: When Isabelle told me about Pikmi Pops, I couldn't wrap my head around it. It's a big ball on a stick (like a giant lollipop), with a stuffed animal inside. And a few other surprises. Yup, that's what it is! The stuffies are super cute and fluffy, but you don't know what you're getting -- hence, the surprise. And new, are the PushMiUps!, which are like handheld crackers that shoot out confetti and a little creature pops out. There are 12 to collect and reasonably priced. I'm sure these would make a memorable stocking stuffer.
Lastly, and my favourite, Squeezamals. These are squishy creatures that come in a variety of sizes and shapes. Think of a ball of memory foam covered in fluff -- they are "slow-rise" so you can watch them take their shape again and again. Plus, they have deliciously sweet scents. I love the mini donut keychain, part of the dessert series, and the adorable narwal, which, I understand, is the "next" popular creature we all need to watch out for. The biggest surprise, or ahhhhhh moment, comes when you squeeze and smell the Squeezeamals for the first time. Good for all ages and genders. And they're too cute.

All toys available at major toy stores or online.
