Cooking Show Star?

I'm going to let you in on a little secret: when I was a kid, I used to pretend I had my own cooking show. I would talk to a pretend audience, discussing whatever kitchen concoction I had whipped up.

Years later, not only did I produce a few cooking series, but I also hosted my very own dining series for quite a few years. Still today, it remains one of the best gigs I've ever had. And maybe, one day, I'll make that personal cooking show a reality.

While I wouldn't say I'm great at adhering to recipes, I do love learning directly from chefs, and the ability to follow along and cook alongside the pros is such valuable training and experience.

Unfortunately, the Covid-19 pandemic has prevented in-person cooking classes from taking place, but that doesn't mean foodies can't learn online. In addition to the millions of cooking shows and demos online, some schools, organizations and restaurants have added live guided lessons.

Last night, I participated in a guided pizza masterclass hosted by the Italian Chamber of Commerce of Ontario and Eataly Toronto, along with Chef Mattia Pagliara and Chef Roberto Fracchioni. In the hour, I learned about the history and origin of the ingredients of the pizzas we were making, along with the style, cooking tips and fundamentals of the dough, process etc.

I've probably made pizza hundreds of times, but there is always so much to learn. So don't let that stop you. At the end of the hour, I was not only left with pages of notes and information, but also, four individual pizzas that we enjoyed for dinner -- now that's a win-win if you ask me!
